G+T Program at Brooklyn School of Inquiry (BSI) - for 1st Graders [Jun. 24th, 2009|08:53 am]
NY Kids

We have started a Google Group for 1st Grade parents who were shut out of BSI.
If we get enough families we thought we might be able to make some noise and get
the DOE to reconsider and open an additional 1st Grade. Interested? address to

Some background: originally, BSI planned to have two K classes and two 1st Grade
classes for Gifted and Talented (G+T) Students.
Apparently, the Office of Student Enrollment thought that there would be more
interest in K classes than in 1st Grades, and rearranged to have three K and
only one 1st Grade.
If your child has been shut out of BSI's 1st Grade, please join our Google

Adelphi University [Nov. 22nd, 2008|10:04 pm]
NY Kids

Hello! My name is Emma. I'm from a dingy little town in California, and I'm a Senior in High School. I've decided I want to apply to Adelphi University this year.

If I can't get into either Adelphi with a scholarship or UC Berkeley, I will be going to a JC for two years, and then reapplying to both of these schools (plus others).

So I was just wondering if anyone could tell me anything about Adelphi. Anything from dorms, classes, teachers, events, students, the area, being 20 minutes away from NYC, why you love Adelphi or NY, why you hate it, ect. I would really appreciate it!

I have been to New York and I loved it, just in case that is important, lol.

Summer Program in Shanghai, China

June 28 - August 4rd, 2008

The Purchase College summer program in China is located in Shanghai, the leading city and center of modernization which has made China a leader in the 21st century. New China can be found in the superb museums, galleries, dramatic skyline, exciting night-life, outstanding libraries, and world-class shopping and dining possibilities.

Shanghai still retains old China as well. Exploring the alleys and smaller byways, students can discover the culture of ancient China still resonant in the bird-and-flower streets, the sidewalk chess games, the tiny stalls, shops and markets, and the rich life of past and present. The program includes a week long tour of locations of historic and cultural significance as well as four weeks of study on a renowned Chinese university campus.

Summer Day Camp in Brooklyn for a preschooler [Mar. 28th, 2008|12:42 pm]
NY Kids

Dear New Yorkers,
if any of you have a child who had a good summer camp experience, or if you've heard a good first-hand reference, would you please recommend that summer camp?

I am looking for a summer camp for my 4 year old, where camp counselors would be professional teachers, not teenagers (or, at least not only teenagers).

We've had an experience with Shorefront-Y, so no need to recommend that summer camp.

We live in Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn.

Thanks in advance.

Baby's First Ballgame Sept 3rd At KeySpan Park [Aug. 16th, 2007|10:29 am]
NY Kids
Baby’s First Ballgame, this September 3rd at 1 PM, brings back baseball’s first couple Dave and Carrie as they celebrate their one year anniversary with the Brooklyn Cyclones at KeySpan Park in Coney Island. Dave and Carrie were married on the field after a game last July. A year later, they’re celebrating the birth of their baby girl Kate with the Cyclones and inviting all NYC families with a baby or pregnant mom to join them.
We’re also raising money for Autism Cares at this event- with an auction and some great raffle prizes.
There will be lots of contests, giveaways, and prizes for babies and their families.
All pregnant moms in attendance will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, and all families with a child under 3 will be allowed to run the bases on the field after the game!
For more info or if you have a business or organization interested in coming, you can email dave@thekbuzz.com
